History of the club

Welcome

Brothers Alan, David and Graham bought, restored and used old caravans, together with John Brindley and John Ellis. In 1982 they formed the PERIOD AND CLASSIC CARAVAN CLUB. It was a struggle for the club to get rally organisers to take the movement seriously at first. The Period and classic caravan club was formed just at the right time to cater for a new group of people who were interested in both Pre and Post war caravanning.

The first real recognition for the club was at The East of England Showground at Peterborough where Marshals of Cambridge (a motor vehicle dealership) invited the club to attend as a caravan organisation. From this moment on the club were established. Membership started to rise and the Club were invited to numerous events.

A rally was held at Sam Alper’s vineyard (Sam Alper bought Eccles caravan co., and designed the Alperson’ later to become the famous Sprite)

In 1990 the first Period and Classic National Rally was held at Avoncroft Museum of Buildings in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. There were 49 caravans on show, with national T.V. and radio coverage, magazine articles and an increase in membership. Mary Riley (Eccles caravans) and Lionel Hutchings ( Winchester caravans) were VIPs who attended and presented trophies to the winners of the best caravans.

The Period and Classic Caravan Club are a friendly organisation that welcomes people who are interested in the preservation of Vintage and Classic Caravans both pre and post war.

There is a keen dedicated and willing club membership with a hard working committee; this continues to make the Period and Classic Caravan Club a great success.
